We had a beautiful day to go see the Horse Guard! It's like the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace, except they're on horses (sorry if I'm stating the obvious). We went to see the guards posted at the arched entrance along Whitehall street, which leads to Buckingham Palace and St. James Palace (which used to be a royal residence). Before we saw the changing, we of course had to get our picture taken next to the guard. He's just sitting there very serious not looking at anyone. The horse, however, kept moving his head around and seemed antsy!
.
We didn't totally understand what was going on during the changing, but I think one set of guards (the red coats maybe) are from St. James Palace, and the other set (the navy coats) are from Buckingham Palace. And I think there's a mix of old and new guards, and then two guards meet, and I guess they report on what's been happening.
Even though we didn't quite understand what was going on, it was still fun. The horses were beautiful! And side note, during the Olympics, this will be the site of beach volleyball.
We left the horses and made our way over to Buckingham in hopes of seeing the regular changing of the guard. It was way too crowded, and we couldn't see anything, but it was fun to walk over there and see this parade.
After all that, we went to St. James Park to relax. Spring hasn't quite arrived here yet, but there were some beautiful flowers in the park!
There were all sorts of birds too!

Anna loved all the birds! She really wanted some crackers to feed the birds, but we didn't have any. So she just contented herself with watching and squealing over them, and then she started chasing some of the pigeons!
While Anna was stalking pigeons, the rest of us were relaxing.
After a while, though, the boys started playing tag, and Daniel started chasing Anna.
We also enjoyed some ice cream "with flake" (a yummy chocolate stick in the ice cream).
And lastly, on the way home, we saw this produce stand right outside a Tube station stop. So I had to stop and buy some fruit and veggies!
