It's an adventure. Our family of five is taking a year off from... the normal. Less work. More travel. Even (gasp!) homeschooling! We invite you to come along with us as we head West. Then on to Europe. Even grand times at home in between! Our goals: Rest. Connect. Experience. We hope to grow closer as a family and gain a deeper appreciation of all that God is, does, gives. Scaled back commitments. Scaled up adventure. Come along with us as the story unfolds!

Date night!

While my mom was here, she graciously volunteered to babysit one night for us!  We were so excited!  It was almost paralyzing, trying to figure out what we could cram into one night.  We even talked about seeing a movie, but don't worry, that was a short conversation.

We decided to go walk around the Marais area, eat dinner, and then walk around some more.  We've been walking so many places with the kids, but there's always so much more walking and exploring that Kevin and I want to do.  So our date was a perfect time to walk, walk, walk!

To guide us on our walk, we used a card from City Walks Paris.  We saw this beautiful medieval mansion, called Hotel de Sens.  We could even see where a cannonball was lodged in the wall from the French Revolutionary war.

Yes, these are real snails!
Not sure what the building is behind Kevin.  We think
it's an "exposed beam" home from the 15th century.
Whatever it's called, we liked it!
Then we stopped for dinner.  It was lovely to sit out on the sidewalk and eat good food and people watch with my hubby!

Yummy baked camembert with fig jelly -DELICIOUS!
When the waiter first brought out the fish, it was, well, whole.  Thankfully he asked Kevin if he'd like him to "prepare it."
After dinner, we walked, yes, hand in hand, around Paris.  We walked across bridges, strolled down Champs-Elysees, and we were even able to get a glimpse of the Eiffel Tower do its hourly sparkle thingy.  We found some dessert too.  And that is no easy feat!  Even though there's tons of patisseries (pastry shops with decadent desserts), few of them are open in the evening.  Go figure!  But on Champs-Elysees, which is pretty touristy, we were able to find something.

Here's a few pictures from our after dinner walk.  Sorry there's not more, but we were too busy gazing into each other eyes and having deep meaningful conversation!
