It's an adventure. Our family of five is taking a year off from... the normal. Less work. More travel. Even (gasp!) homeschooling! We invite you to come along with us as we head West. Then on to Europe. Even grand times at home in between! Our goals: Rest. Connect. Experience. We hope to grow closer as a family and gain a deeper appreciation of all that God is, does, gives. Scaled back commitments. Scaled up adventure. Come along with us as the story unfolds!

On the way to London

Saturday we headed to London!  We took a four hour train ride from Edinburgh to Kings Cross Station in London.  Kevin was quite relieved to turn in the rental car!

We were all excited about riding the train.  As Justin said, it was more than just an "actual ride" (meaning not a ride you'd do just for entertainment purposes, like at an amusement park).  Before we got on the train, we were concerned about making sure our kids weren't too loud.  We'd read and heard about how Americans can be loud and obnoxious, and the English are more subdued. But we didn't need to worry.  When we got on, there was a big group of women with matching shirts that said "hen party," which I think is the same thing as bachelorette party.  They were definitely having a good time drinking and singing.  It was quite interesting.  Not sure what else to say about that.  Thankfully they weren't on the whole ride with us.  Later we told a friend that they got off at Newcastle, and she said, "yeah, that makes sense.  Newcastle is like the New Jersey of England."  Whatever that means.

The loud women aside, the train ride was lots of fun!  The scenery was beautiful, and we felt pretty relaxed. The kids played cards for a while, then I suggested they write some postcards.  Anna immediately responds, "But I don't know what to write about because we haven't really done anything." Umm, ten days in Scotland, including at least five castles, ferry ride, lots of sheep, seriously??  She finally ended up writing about what she bought in one of the gift shops.

At Edinburgh, the boys are checking the train schedule board.

Here we are about to getting on the train.  I love Anna's look here - priceless.  I think she's complaining about her backpack being too heavy, but really, it could be anything.  We've pushed her pretty hard, so she's actually been a trooper.

I shouldn't be too hard on the "hen" party.  One of them helped us get our luggage on the train, and another took this family picture of us.

We've arrived at King's Cross.  We're in London!

This is as far as I could get the cart in.  Oh well, guess I'll have to get to Hogwarts another way. Flying car, perhaps.
We'll be in London for three weeks staying in an apartment, and it'll be nice to be in one place for a while.  We will still stay pretty busy because there's so much to do in London!

So I'm coming clean... I saw that platform 9 3/4 picture on FB and didn't get it until reading this. :^) I'm so out of it.

I'd especially love to be there in London with you right now. There is an international pro-life prayer movement called "40 Days for Life" happening during this Lenten season. There is supposed to be a pro-life rally at 7pm London time tonight (right now for you?) with an expected pro-abort counter protest outside the BPAS abortion facility (England's equivalent of American abortion giant Planned Parenthood). If you get to see any of the demonstration, I'd love to hear about it. If you're reading local newspapers, you should see something about the pro-abort media campaign against these pro-life prayer warriors.

P.S. It's the "British Pregnancy Advisory Service" in Bedford Square. So, that's what's going on if you go there & see people praying.
