I'm cramming a lot into this post from Inverness, so hang in there. We spent Wednesday and Thursday night in Inverness, and we were so happy to have a two bedroom apartment for two nights! We had been staying in bed and breakfasts, which were fun, and Holiday Inns, which were okay, but it was nice to be able to spread out a bit. And our apartment was right by Loch Ness, so we had a great view.

| This is the view from our apartment |
 |
| Our apartment is in the white building, but we're on the left side, which you can't see. |
 |
| The kids ran and jumped on the bed when we arrived. They were happy to have more space too! |
 |
| Daniel bought this castle game. |
 |
| Ahh, time to relax. |

| Here's the castle at Inverness. It's used as a government building, so you can't go inside. |
Near Inverness is... Loch Ness! Anna was very excited about going to see "Nessie," and she couldn't wait to pick up her very own Nessie to take home.
We went through the Loch Ness exhibit, which told about the history of the Loch Ness monster, and how a lot of the myths got started, and how they were disproved.

| Loch Ness is a beautiful lake. It's the lake that holds the largest volume of water in the UK. |
Anna checking out the water for Nessie.
There was no sign of her, until we got to the gift shop of course!
We had almost completed our time in Scotland when we realized we hadn't tried any haggis yet. So, we did it! We got
Haggis, neeps (turnips), and tatties (potatoes). The verdict? Not too bad, as long as I didn't think about what I was actually eating. It tasted like sausage/ground beefish sort of. The kids even tried some too! And Kevin had to try some real Scottish Whiskey. He was surprised at how much he liked it - "it was peaty and smooth." I took a sip, and I was not surprised at how much I didn't like it. So there.
Outside of Inverness, is Culloden Battlefield. It was the site of the last big battle of the Scots versus the the English in 1745. Well, there were lots of issues in the battle, but basically the English won, and the Scottish clans were scattered. We walked around the welcome center to learn about the battle, and then we went outside to walk around the field where the main battle actually happened (with our audio guides of course).

| I have a weird smile because I felt like I shouldn't look really happy next to a memorial site. |
 |
| Somebody didn't think that maybe that's not the best place to put fire extinguishers? Or is that what marks the occasion of the visit of the Queen? |
Here's a miscellaneous picture a very cool bridge we saw. We saw this from afar, and we were able to get a lot closer to it. Well we didn't really mean to. We thought this was the way to Dunfermline, but it turned out to be a small one lane road. Oh well, we got a great picture!

Love all the updates! I am very impressed you tried haggis. I have never had it but have read about what it is :-).
Ahhh Haggis. I can see Kevin stumbling along the dreary lanes of Inverness with a proper Scottish ale sloshing in his glass and Haggis juice still dripping down his chin reciting ole' Robert Burn's Address to Haggis:
Nice seeing your honest, chubby face,
Great chieftain of the sausage race!
Above them all you take your place,
Belly, tripe, or links:
Well are you worthy of a grace...
or by now he may be speaking in the old dialect saying
Fair fa' your honest, sonsie face,
Great chieftain o' the puddin'-race!
Aboon them a' ye tak yer place,
Painch, tripe, or thairm:
Weel are ye wordy o' a grace...
Watch the winds under your kilt there Kevin
I've been reading via email so haven't posted any repsonses. But love all the descriptions and pictures. What a great adventure!!
