It's an adventure. Our family of five is taking a year off from... the normal. Less work. More travel. Even (gasp!) homeschooling! We invite you to come along with us as we head West. Then on to Europe. Even grand times at home in between! Our goals: Rest. Connect. Experience. We hope to grow closer as a family and gain a deeper appreciation of all that God is, does, gives. Scaled back commitments. Scaled up adventure. Come along with us as the story unfolds!

Jackson Hole and Grand Teton

In front of the Anvil Motel, where we stayed in Jackson Hole
Our rental minivan - home away from home!

There were several of these elk antler archways in Jackson Hole
We didn't get to see much of Jackson Hole, since we got in so late, so it was fun to see what a quaint and rustic mountain town when we got up Sunday morning.  We ate breakfast at a cute breakfast place called "The Bunnery," along with almost everyone else in the town!  In other words, we had to wait a long time!  But it helped that once we got seated, we all had hot chocolate and good food!  It was a good practice in patience and flexibility for the kids... okay for Kevin and I too!

After leaving the hotel and stocking up at the grocery store, we drove only about fifteen minutes to Grand Teton National Park.  We couldn't believe how beautiful the Tetons were - wide open valleys with steep mountains climbing immediately up in to the sky.  We had a nice picnic and then walked down to Jenny Lake.  We also had to stop at the store to buy some souvenirs.  We bought National Park passports for all of us and got our first stamps.  Anna and Justin bought stuffed animals.  Anna declared that she wants to buy a stuffed animal from each national park (that's six!)

Before we left, the kids got some good practice talking to one of the park rangers as part of their Junior Ranger activities.

We plan to stop again at Grand Tetons when we pass back through after we visit Yellowstone.

Looks like fun! Just be glad ALL your kids aren't planning to buy 6 stuffed animals, right? Maybe the boys can each pick up one tiny rock per location. Wait, maybe that is illegal...
